Diligence and making genuine connections are two qualities that come very natural to Karriema Calhoun. This South Carolina native grew up in a rural town in the upstate called Calhoun Falls. Surrounded by a very supportive family, she is her parents’ only child. Karriema graduated as valedictorian from Calhoun Falls High School at the age of 16. She credits her family with teaching her the importance of education, setting goals, and working hard. She is also deeply appreciative of insights from mentors throughout her college years and professional life. Those mentors inspired her passion for mentoring, community service, and helping others.

Karriema graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism & Mass Communications. Following undergrad, she moved to Charleston, SC in 2008 and started her professional career in project management. After achieving her MBA in 2011, Karriema made a career pivot into the cyber security field. In addition to pivoting career fields, she also developed a love for resume writing. Her career advancement was a product of leveraging her rebranded resume, and she began sharing that gift. She helped family and friends with revamping their resumes to position for career opportunities.

In 2014, while Karriema was in the process of completing her second master’s degree, she joined The Boeing Company as an Information Technology (IT) Process Analyst. A year later, she achieved another goal, completing her Master of Science in Information Systems & Technology Management from Capella University. After working in IT for six years, Karriema made her next career pivot and became a manager in Facilities & Asset Management in 2021. She is currently a manager in Global Field Operations
supporting supply chain management and supplier health.

Energized and passionate about helping others, Karriema gives back by volunteering her time to support various community initiatives and organizations. She spends countless hours working and volunteering to serve her local community. Her volunteer efforts primarily consist of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) outreach. Having pivoted from a non-technical to technical career, Karriema enjoys mentoring and career coaching, especially in STEM fields. She feels rewarded by helping people to achieve their career goals. This is ultimately what led to her launching Copy by KC and Resume Bae, two businesses where she offers resume writing.

Karriema is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. – Gamma Xi Omega Chapter. She is also a board member for YMCA of Greater Charleston – Cane Bay, Twenty Pearls Foundation of Charleston Inc., National Society of Black Engineers – Charleston Professionals, and Charleston Area Urban League.

In her free time, Karriema enjoys spa days, traveling, and being a “local tourist” in the Charleston, SC area.
